 Ibuka

The word ‘Ibuka’ means ‘remember’. We preserve the memory of the 1994 genocide of Tutsi, we support survivors in overcoming its continuing effects, and we work to prevent further genocide. IBUKA is an independent and non-profit oriented organization legally recognized by the government of Rwanda. We gather genocide survivors associations and act as an umbrella to those associations. We were formed in 1995 and now have thirteen survivors’ member associations throughout Rwanda. Our vision is: becoming an organization of national and international reference in relation to genocide prevention and the healing of memorie
